All here at SUBSET HQ have been blown away (again) by the talent of you SUBSETTERs!

First it was the anonymous video for Silent Treatment that was passed on to us, then our good friend Dan Zagni produced a video for Ambrosia – and now comes a video treat from 11 year old Jay Sillito!

Yeah, you read that right people – this young dude has produced a video for Lucid Dreamer that cannot fail to leave you with a big ol’ grin on your face.

We can’t stop smiling every time we play it so we felt that we just had to share this with you :0)

So, it’s another Spring day in London – that means it’s raining.

The lads are pumping themselves full of coffee in order to numb the reminders of the weekend’s indulgences.

Even though they’re looking like they’ve been sleeping rough for the last few days (I’m afraid to ask just in case some of them actually have been) the mood is good here at SUBSET HQ.

The fuzzy foursome (quite literally this morning as they appear to have all dodged the razor as well as the iron today) are joking around and don’t look like a band that has spent the last four months holed up together and been forced to be creative.

In fact, talking to Rom, there was no sign of being forced to do anything:

“We’re constantly writing and recording ideas, this is why we sent 14 tracks to Expats when we only needed 5 – then we let the SUBSETTERs choose their 5 favourites”.

The guys are also bouncing around like excited kids as they are back doing what they love best – playing live!

“Don’t get me wrong, I actually enjoy working in the studio with this lot” says Jay, “but my whole point of being in a band is to play in front of a crowd and SUBSETTERs are the best crowd to do this for”.

Rob adds: “and our first few shows are on home turf for me and Steve so they’re going to feel more like ‘welcome back’ parties even though we’ve been keeping the bars warm here when we’ve not been in the cave”.

I asked Steve, who has spent the last 20 minutes trying to convince the others that it must be “beer o’ clock by now” (it’s not even 11:00am yet!):

“it’s been a blast getting the new songs recorded and then, over the last few weeks arranging them for live but I want to see how the new tracks hit the crowd. ‘Av it!”

If you want to see how these new songs sound then you only have to wait til Thursday April 7th when they hit The Four Kings in Dunstable (or Funstable as the Fuzztastic Four have re-christened it) and then, so that everyone gets a piece of fuzz ‘n’ roll, SUBSET are doing a gig for 13-17 year olds at Grove Corner on Sunday April 10th.

Keep you eyes on the listings as there will be more shows added now that they boys have tasted freedom…

If you follow the lads on Facebook or Twitter or, better still actually bought shares, you will have already heard the incredible news.

If you still need help in understanding what the heck I am talking about – The sexiest, most gorgeous and generous SUBSETTERs have helped your favourite fuzzy four-piece raise the funds they needed to be able to record and produce their upcoming EP.

The guys have been completely blown away by the generosity of fans, family and friends since they started the campaign in October – just 4 months later the €4,000 has been raised.

They are not taking this lightly we hasten to add – they know that expectations will be high as over 300 SUBSETTERs have invested in this EP.

The boys are really excited about the news and here at SUBSET HQ we’d like to say a huge thank you on behalf of Jay, Rob, Rom and Steve – you have really made their weekend, month and possibly year

The lads are back in Bedford on Thursday 17th as guests of honour at the Bedfordshire Battle of the Bands.

They will be headlining the second round heat at The Bear.

This also coincides with Jay’s birthday (16th) so be prepared for plenty of drinking and probably a fair amount of silliness.

So, if you’re in the area swing by, support original music at a free show and help Jay (like he needs it) celebrate the passing of another year.

This will also be a good chance to get your hands on tickets to see Subset at the Semi-Finals of the Surface Unsigned Competition which is being held at The Purple Turtle in Camden.

What a glorious weekend that was!

We hope that you Subsetters spent plenty of time partying, BBQ’ing, hanging by pools and drinking chilled booze – that’s how Subset spent their weekend.

Well, that’s not entirely true – they did spend 6 hours in the studio on Saturday and they’re looking forward to unveiling their new tunes.

They have just been confirmed to play The Flag on Friday May 28th – so if you want a sneaky peek of their new set; that’s your chance.

Jay, Rom, Rob and Steve will be putting ‘Silent Treatment’, ‘Give/Take’ and ‘Tachycardia’ through their paces ahead of their shows next week at 93 Feet East and The Bridgehouse II.

The lovely Majick Music Group has kindly slotted them in at the start of the night so be sure to arrive early!

Do stick around afterwards though, not only to chat to the guys, but to catch the great line-up that MMG have put on that night.

Subset should be on around 8:30pm

The sun is trying desperately to keep its grip on the weather and hopefully it will continue its winning streak on Saturday, May 8th.

“Why?” you may well ask.

Well, Subset will be helping Party in the Park to keep rocking and, should the weather go all British, the bands will be in the live tent

There’ll be stuff going on between 12pm and 5pm and our friends at MMG will be delivering the best acts from around the area such as Right of Rebellion and the likes

Subset will be on at 4pm!

As ever MMG is going for the party vibe and this time there is NO AGE RESTRICTION… so, if you’ve been kicked out of a Subset gig before for being underage – now’s your chance to dance!

You may have got the hint from the ‘Back to the Future’ styled logo but the event has an 80′s theme so we’re all expecting mullets, spandex, big shoulders and bigger hair!

Party in the Park will remain open til 8pm with loads of things to do and Subset will no doubt be found somewhere near a beer tent

Subset really enjoyed themselves over the weekend and are totally enjoying playing in places that they’ve never visited before.

The intrepid quartet are trying something completely different on Thursday – they’re taking their original mix of Post-punk, Indie rock to a Sports Complex!!

Yup; two words that you don’t usually associate with Subset: Sports and Complex!

The lads have been invited to provide ‘half-time entertainment’ for round two of the Buckinghamshire MMG Battle of the Bands which is being held at City Limits, the bar venue hidden away in the Xscape complex in Milton Keynes.

Creating the bread of the Subset sandwich will be local bands: The Retros, Without Reason, Infinite Wisdom and Ryker Sear.

Be sure to keep an eye on the MMG site for other things happening in the 3 counties area.

We’ll try and keep Rom, Rob, Steve and Jay away from the bowling alley, Sno!Zone and defintely from the rock climbing – especially knowing how all of them enjoy a pint or three

Come along and see the guys away from their regular grungy, underground, alternative, rock, squat venues that they usually inhabit.

We hope that you’ve all made good use of the glorious weather this weekend. We managed to get a few hours drinking outside before hiding away in a studio to record some new ideas.

Hopefully the weather will continue to behave itself as we have not one, not two – but three shows for you this week!

The weekend will kick off on Thursday when we hit the i-Bar in Whetstone. This place has a decent stage, a great PA and great soundguys so we should sound even better than usual

The next day, the one everyone works towards: Friday – we’re on stage at the Nag’s Head in High Wycombe. This a new one for us but it has some great history. This place has seen everyone from John Lee Hooker and Howlin Wolf to The Who and The Sex Pistols play on their stage. If you can make it we’d love to see some familiar faces

Finally we’re with the MMG Hi-Jack team at The Peacock in St. Albans. It’s free to get in, it’s a Saturday and there’s The Aribitors and Friends of the Family joining us on the line up. To us this sounds like a recipe for a decent Saturday evening

Subset are on their travels again and will be appearing at The Wheatsheaf in Dunstable – a home gig for Rob and Steve

They join Dutch Order again on the bill for this FREE GIG along with Right of Rebellion and Flexy Boys.

Dutch Order are are well liked by Subset and the BBC reviewed their Introducing…. show by saying:

Dutch Order’s performance entailed a fresh, individual showcase of everything that is modern rock. Tracks which they performed included that of ‘Working Girls’ and ‘New Patriots’. Heavy and dynamic tones were let out by ‘Jack and Jill’ but still suited their persona of incorporating a mix of rhythmic rock melodies. They are still in the process of making their music available online but their Facebook group has as much information about them and their sound you could possibly need! Overall it was a very commendable offering of a slice of tasty musical cake from the guys. Be sure to wait for more sweet treats from them.

Right Of Rebellion:
Old skool Punk! Vocals delivered with true grit this three peice could well find themselves with a cult following fast! Taking influence from GBH right through to NOFX Right of Rebellion will not be uncertain about what they want to say!

Gertrude:
Politics and social confusion have lead to this current line up of Gertrude…

Flexy Boys:
Never fail to deliver a high energy performance and with the added bonus of being slightly unhinged and ‘nirvana-esk’. The Flexy Boys will get the show off to a bang b- b- bang -go!

The lads are back at Watford’s largest live music venue, The Flag, tomorrow (Saturday) as special guest headliners at the Battle of the Bands Hertfordshire finals .

The six bands have had to qualify by playing a number of heats so these should all represent the top talent in the Hertfordshire area – we all reckon that Simon Cowell should contact Ryan and MMG to get a short-cut in finding decent people to put on Britain’s Got Talent
